The Tupac Amaru Rebellion in the Financial Times’ Best Books of the Year

As is customary in this time of the year, magazines and newspapers announce their lists of the best books of the year. And I have been surprised to read that the Financial Times has included The Tupac Amaru Rebellion as one of them!

The editor wrote a succinct and powerful review of the book:

The Tupac Amaru rebellion began in the Spanish viceroyalty of Peru in 1780 and turned into the largest popular uprising in Spain’s imperial history. To this day, its impact resonates in modern Latin American politics. The rebellion receives masterly treatment from Walker, a history professor at the University of California, Davis.

Como suele ocurrir a estas alturas del año, diversas revistas y periódicos comienzan a publicar sus listas de los mejores libros del año que termina. Y me ha sorprendido muy gratamente saber que el Financial Times ha incluido The Tupac Amaru Rebellion como uno de los mejores libros de 2014.

El editor ha escrito una breve pero enérgica reseña del libro:

La rebelión de Túpac Amaru comenzó en el Virreinato peruano en 1780 y se convirtió en el mayor levantamiento popular en la historia imperial española. Hasta el día de hoy es posible observar su impacto en la política latinoamericana. La rebelión ha recibido un tratamiento magistral por parte de Walker, profesor de Historia de la Universidad de California, Davis.

Gracias a Tony Barber y el Financial Times por este honor, y por incluir Tupac Amaru Rebellion con otros formidables libros que aparecieron en los últimos meses. Esta es la lista de los nominados en la categoría de Libros de Historia.
