The Tupac Amaru Rebellion Goes to UT Austin

I had a wonderful visit to UT Austin. In less than 36 hours I saw friends, had extensive conversations with graduate students in Latin American Studies and History, participated in a grant-writing workshop, and presented my book. I was also able to eat some great BBQ and have a cold one at the venerable Hole in the Wall. I was also called Sir countless times. Professor Susan Deans-Smith provided kind and intelligent comments on my book and I enjoyed the rich questions and conversation afterwards.

I left very impressed by the Latin Americanist & Atlantic History worlds there. Nino Bariola, Juan Carlos de Orellana, and Chris Heaney proved to be great hosts. I should also thank the LLILAS Benson and the Atlantic World Speaker Series (Institute for Historical Studies) for hosting me and Jose Carlos de la Puente for attending. Matthew Adams is a journalist major who impressed me with his questions. He is the author of the attached article. The ultimate treat was to meet Curtis (Heaney) and Olivia (Bariola), two spectacular babies.
